Probably, more than any other reason, universal health care is a leveler..all become equal. All wait their turn for service and receive the same level of service.

America has a huge shortage of doctors, created by the doctors themselves so as to increase their revenues. The first thing the government would have to do is build more medical schools and produce at least twice as many doctors as are graduating today. I can be done of course and should be done.

How about waiting your turn. In first world countries you wait your turn. You don't wait for critical or emergency care. For those you go immediately in front of the line. And the waits, at least in Norway are not any longer than in America...but its the idea. If you have to wait your turn you can hardly tell yourself and others how special you are , can you.

Plus, in American culture, money is the measure of everything. The more you have the more important you are. In other cultures that is not true. Money in America, gets you the best doctor and an early appointment. It does not in a universal health care system.

Americans who have above average incomes don't want to lose that privilege..how can they feel better or superior to others if they don't get the table by the window in the restaurant?

Frankly , I don't think you right wingers have a thing to worry about...the culture will protect you.
